here we go again

i don't think anyone reads this, i really don't blame you. i go many, many months without blogging . but i've been running for 2 weeks now. i started on august 25. so why have i waited this long to blog about it? because i try to start running often. but after 2 weeks, i think this is legit :) i started with 3 miles. super slow, but 3 miles. i planned to do 3 miles every day for 2 weeks. then work up to 5 by the end of august. then a training schedule to do a half at the end of october. but this is the last day of 2 weeks. i ran 8 miles this morning. that is more than half of a half! what?!? yeah, so i think i can definitely do a half at the end of october. no going back now.

i find that once i start running, i find ways to fit it into my life. yeah i work, yeah i have to cook, yeah i need to be with my daughter. well, thats okay. now i cook and take my little trainer with me. she LOVES to go for a run. it is not as easy as when she was 1 year old and weighed not even 20 pounds. now i am pushing over 40 pounds but she grabs my water bottles and pesters me to "lets go." so out we go, into the dusk. now that i am over 5 miles, i can run every other day and on my off day, me and the girl can run up to the park thats a mile away. cuz running can be fun too :)

so anyways, ran 8 miles today. it was a beautiful morning for it. i left at 6 and the sun never came out. it was not hot, which is a nice change. so even though i told my hubby i'd do about 5 miles, i kept going. i love the trails that are by my house.....but they are 1.5 miles away. totally worth it though. they are nice paved paths through parks and behind houses with trees on both sides. good for running with the stroller. i was so energized when i got back i was able to do so much stuff around the house. now when everyone finally wakes up we can just hang out all day.

i think i wrote enough :)

a quarter :)

ah, you probably though i haven't written since tuesday because i already gave in to laziness and excuses. nope! i just got back from running 6.55 miles. that is exactly half of a half marathon. which is good, because that is what i am training for :) my legs are killing me and my tummy a little too. i think it's time to start taking a couple ibuprofin before i run, as well as eating a banana. it also sucks not training with my running partner (aka my beautiful little girl) because i cannot carry water and tissues and whatnots in her jogging stroller. oh wells, such is life. there are no sidewalks here in my mom's neighborhood, so i don't dare take her with. plus i've been running early to beat the florida heat and come back before she even wakes up. and speaking of running partner, she just woke up now. now to continue my day with princess movies and sewing.

FINALLY!

how did august 19 turn into october 5??? i know how, EXCUSES! but, i cannot change the past. i can either beat myself up about it and use it as another excuse to put it off one more day, or i can just run. right now i am in florida and it is hot. and it is somewhat of a vacation, so free good food. excuses for me to put off running still, but i finally told myself, hey-i do not necessarily have to eat healthy and run at the same time. i mean, it is nice.....but i shouldnt put off running because i want to eat a jamaican beef patty for lunch tomorrow, right? i can eat better when i get back home. but i can still run. and the heat? i trained for a half 2 years ago in miami, so i'll live. another thing that finally got me out the door: A HALF MARATHON IN LESS THAN 4 WEEKS!!!! ACK! how the heck i'm going to pull it off when i havent ran for over a month, i dont know. i see it as more as a kickoff for me running regularly. but i cant go from 0 to 13.1, so i ran 2.6 and tomorrow i will do 3 and then i will increase it by 1 mile increments at most, taking few resting days for stretching and recuperating. it is far from ideal, but i signed up for a half, and a half is what i shall do.

anyways, since i knew i needed to get back in running shape, i figured i should see where i am at now. 144 pounds!!!! this is the heaviest i have ever been (well, except for being pregnant)! i took a picture. you know those before and after pictures where the before picture is all pissy and the after picture is all super happy? well i took a happy picture...and a silly pic. gotta have fun with it, right?

new kicks!

we got new shoes! as evidenced in my last post, we (em and i) got soaked. my shoes were wet for 3 days, so no running for me. excuses, excuses right? well, only a good excuse to go out and buy a second pair of running shoes! i needed a new pair soon anyways and i should have two pairs, right? let me tell you- zappos ROCKS! we ordered our shoes (the hubby needed a new pair too....there was a hole from his toe!) after 21:00 and we got them by 10:00 the next morning!!! free shipping! what!? i figured they would take forever, but zappos is cheaper than buying them from a running store. and kev needs to buy his shoes from there anyways, no one carries his size really. i guess that's what happens when you wear size 17. oh, and aren't we cute??? our shoes match....lol. his have yellow accents and mine are "obnoxiously" yellow.

and yes, i did finally get to do my 4 miler. it was not all that bad and i got to start breaking in my new shoes. 5 miles on monday!

rain or shine???

the next time i use this phrase, just slap me, okay? i did not run monday because we were taken out to eat at red lobster....and i don't think anyone would run after eating half a pound of crab legs, a few stuffed shrimp, and some bread. i wasn't about to, at least. but tonight i finally made it out the door to do the 4 miler. me and the hubby were going to have to do it separate because em was taking a super late nap and soup was cooking on the stove. and no excuses, right? come rain or shine, right? of course, right as i am walking out the door to take my turn first, emily peeks out her door. awesome, right? i mean, i get to have the stroller so i get to have my water bottles, towel, music, all that. well, almost 2 miles into the run i see lightening. where did this come from? so i start booking it and it begins to pour. half a mile later, i finally get to the gas station to use their phone to call hubby to come to our rescue. poor em is shivering and we are soaked. so, yeah, when i said i would run rain or shine, i really would have rathered it NOT rain, thankyouverymuch. and i didn't do my 4 miler :( but i guess i'm better off than kevin- he did not get to run at all. 4 miles tomorrow......do i want to lose sleep and wake up at 6 or do i want to feel like dieing and run in the heat? eh, bring on the heat!

i HATE biking

okay, maybe i touched up on this in the last post, but that was a few days ago and i have a horrible memory. i do not like biking....at all. my hubby is breezing by me with em in tow- doing circles, laughing, having a grand old time. me- i'm huffing and puffing trying to make it up another hill. i would take running over biking ANY day. so, i guess something good comes from it: a better appreciation for running. i am thinking of maybe roller blading, but there are a few hills and i have to push a jogging stroller at the same time. unless hubby bikes with em and i trail behind in skates. something to think about, later. right now, i am psyching myself up for a 4 mile run tomorrow night. while training almost 2 years ago, i wouldn't run anything less then a 5. so it is a little unmotivating to think i am dreading a measly 4 miler. oh well, as they say: "rome was not built in a day." and, soon enough, it will be fall and we will be running our 8 and 9 miles in the cool, crisp air :)
